Life Changes

This is probably the only post that will ever write about myself. I want the focus of this blog to be on food and recipes, not me or my thoughts on life...

Me, trying to relax on my wedding day, before getting into my dress.

But if you want to get to know me a little better, then read on. If not, here's the main point of this post: I will not be able to regularly post twice a week from now on, and probably won't be able to until June, at the soonest. It breaks my heart to say this because cooking, baking, and blogging is my passion in life! But I promise that I will try my best to post at least once a week.

Here's my story.

I'm facing a lot of life changes right now. Good changes. But big changes, nonetheless. Ones that take up an incredible amount of my time and have consumed a large part of my life, leaving hardly any time for anything else.

Our house, currently under construction.

(1) Hubby and I have spent the past two years building our dream house. And it's finally all coming together! We'll be ready to move in at the end of April! It sits on 1.4 acres and has a beautiful stream running through the back, adjacent to a large park with a ton of great hiking trails! Once fully constructed, it'll be about 4500 sq feet- enough for a few kids and a lot of pets!

The stream.

But I only have the next two weeks to pack up our currently place. (Because it's not like I can count on Hubby to do it. He can't even figure out where his left sock is sometimes. hehe. You know how men are! ) Why so soon, you ask? Because of reason number two...

(2) I'm starting a new job in two weeks. And they're temporarily relocating me to California for 11 weeks. I won't be back until June. I'll be living in a hotel the entire time and won't have access to a kitchen. (I know, I know. What a nightmare! I don't know if I'll make it! hehe.)

So about this job. It's my dream job, actually. But I didn't know that until recently. It took me a while to figure out that this job was the perfect one for me, but once I did, I pursued it relentlessly until I got it. I'm really excited about this opportunity, even though it comes at such a high cost- leaving Hubby and my kitchen for such an extended period of time! (I'll miss you dearly, my little red kitchenaid mixer!)

I love this photo of us, it's from our engagement session with GHKim, the most amazing photographers ever!

I've been with Hubby for about eight years now, from dating to marriage. So it's hard for me to imagine life without him, living like a single gal in airports and hotels. GAH! But anyway, I'm excited about this opportunity and I'm embracing it full on. I'm trying to make the best of the situation by cooking and baking as much as possible in the next two weeks so I can queue some entries up for the 11 weeks when I'll be on the road.

When I return and settle into my new job, hopefully I'll be able to get back into the kitchen again. I'm not sure how demanding this new job will be, so maybe I'll only be able to continue posting once a week even after I get back. We'll see how crazy things get. =)

And for those of you who are curious about what I do, I suppose I'll stop being embarrassed and secretive about it... I'm a tax accountant. lol. There, I said it. Boring and meticulous, right? Now you see why I need a creative outlet! tee hee. Actually, in all seriousness, I do really like tax and its complexities. It challenges me and I understand it. It was just a matter of finding the right employer to work for. =)

(3) Lastly, I've gotta research cars before I leave, which I have no interest in what so ever. So it's been a painful process- like pulling teeth, really. Since we're moving from an urban area to the suburbs (kinda), we can't get by with just one car anymore. But this means I actually have to figure out what kind of car I want, which is problematic because I know nothing about cars and really don't care to. I suggested a hot pink hummer on a whim and Hubby said something to the affect of: "NO, because no one else on the road would be safe. And I can't in good conscious allow you to wreak that much havoc onto society." lol. Ok so...maybe an SUV? That would be a good car to have for, um...kids or something, right?

Ok, so I was just kidding when I told Hubby I wanted a pink Hummer. But I thought it would be funny to post a picture of it. 'Lo and behold- I actually found one on the internet! lol. looks like something Malibu Barbie would drive! hehe.

So there you have it: me in a nutshell and the current events in my life. I just have a lot to deal with within the next two weeks, and all the way through June. I'm not sure how many posts I can actually queue up and if it'll last me through when I get back. But I will try my best!

I'm excited for what lies ahead and excited to be sharing it with the best hubby ever!

Me and Hubby. GHKim Photography.

The next few months will be hard, but exciting at the same time! Wish me luck! =)

  1. Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself with us. To be honest, I want to be an accountant too. Baking and accounting have nothing to do with each other, but it happens! I love your wedding pictures by the way and enjoy the weather in California, it should be nice for the next couple of weeks! [well also depending on what part of California!]

  9. Congratulations on the new job and house! Good luck with everything, and we'll all be patiently waiting for your return. We'll mis you, but totally understand that you're a real person, with a real life outside of your blog and kitchen! (Though I'm sure it will be tough to be away from your KitchenAid for so long!) I've only recently discovered your blog, so in your absence I will have plenty of time to catch up on all your older posts. :)
P.S. You two look like such a sweet couple, and you're gorgeous!

My family has just recently completed building a house so I totally understand! The foodie in me really appreciates your blog, your creativity, effort, and of course-all the pictures!

I will miss my kitchen SO much! But I'm trying my best to queue up some entries, so that I won't completely disappear for three months straight! If I can't cook, at least I can still blog. =)

  15. Hi Judy!
Wow, you have a lot of wonderful things coming up for you!
All the best in everything, okay? Your new job and new house...being away from your beloved kitchen and Jing! You know, I'm amazed that you've been able cook all these great stuff and managed to post twice a week during this tax season! How did you do that?? I'm not doing tax and I can't even find a regular once-a-week schedule to spend time in the kitchen, and I really do need the practice! Lol...

Well, good luck, Judy! I know we haven't seen each other in a long time, but following your blog and trying your recipes make me feel like you've been beside me helping me all along, just like back in school when you've helped me a bunch with our accounting projects! Lol...

I'll miss you!!! Good luck once again!!! :D

  19. Wow Judy, best of luck with everything. Good luck being out of the kitchen that long. My hubby banned me from the kitchen recently - it lasted 4 days!!! LOL! Can't do it. But maybe you can use the time to research - that's what I do when I am travelling - perfect excuse to nibble!
    Good luck
